A DEVELOPMENT & ADVOCACY SERVING ORGANIZATION

Youth Senate work towards a just, equitable and progressive society where young people fully enjoy their economic, social and political rights and opportunities. Founded in 2014 YSK was created specifically to spearhead a Youth Led Development model in Kenya with a mandate to enrich a democratic dialogue and ensure youth engagement in national and regional affairs.

YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAMMES ACROSS 47 COUNTIES

We working on a youth leadership programme across the 47 Counties with the support of County Youth Senators with the aim to promote value-driven leadership for democratic governance. We have formed both a national and regional network of youth action partners whom we work with to advance a youth-led approach towards development. Youth Senate has a presence in the 47 Counties with our County Youth Senators who work closely with the County Governments and County Assemblies.

We focus on supporting a movement of citizenship in Kenya to informed and active on tax mobilization, budget allocation and spending. We are also bold and brave in challenging taxation policies and practices and grounding our influencing work on research, power and gender analyses. We will also work on linking community, county, national and global level interventions, particularly on tax justice and inequality.

THEMATIC PROGRAMMES

Our main thematic areas include but are not limited to; Democracy, Political leadership and Governance, Youth Economic Empowerment, Gender Mainstreaming, Human rights Advocacy, Peace and Security, Civic education and awareness as well as monitoring of public sector reforms targeting the youth. YSK provides Kenyan youth with a mechanism to directly engage Kenya’s National Assembly in the law making process through the relevant parliamentary departmental committees and the Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association (KYPA).

PEACE AND SECURITY PROGRAMME

YSK is running a series forum dubbed “Interfaith Dialogue on Violent Extremism” the program is designed to highlight and leverage the soft power of religion in preventing violent extremism in Kenya.

AGRICULTURAL LIVELIHOODS

We are committed to helping small holder farmers in rural communities grow their incomes from planet-friendly agriculture.

ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

We are committed to championing dignified employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for young men and women by supporting TVET’s to contribute towards reduction in the high level of unemployment especially among the youth.

GOVERNANCE, DEMOCRACY AND ACCOUNTABILITY

We focus on supporting a movement of citizenship in Kenya to informed and active on tax mobilization, budget allocation and spending.

GENDER JUSTICE PROGRAM

We empower women and girls living in poverty and exclusion to challenge violence and secure political participation.

NETWORK MEMBERS

The Youth Senate has worked and is supported by key government organizations and NGOs worldwide. We work closely with the County Governments and County Assemblies in mainstreaming the youth agenda by influencing policies and proposing permanent legal and institutional structures in that regard.

Kenya ni Mimi

Youth wa South Rift Region are you ready? Kenya Ni Mimi in partnership with UNFPA is coming to a city near you! And we are excited to come and have a dialogue with you all.

Kikao Youth Forum

We participated at the Narok County Kikao Youth Forum convened by the State Department for Youth under the Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs with the support of Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat.

National Youth Consultative Forum

The Youth Senate Kenya leadership is in Uganda for the National Youth Consultative Forum on the invitation of our Network organization Horn of Africa Youth Network convened by the National Youth Council Uganda.

Mentorship Training Program

Our Youth Senators from Nakuru, Marsabit, Bomet and Kericho Counties are part of young politicians mentorship training program currently going on in Naivasha.

National Youth Consultation on the UNSCR 2250 on Youth Peace and Security in the Great Lakes Region

The Country Level (Kenya) consultations was officially graced by Hon Keneth Lusaka, Speaker of the Senate and Ms Nadia Ahmed Abdalla the Chief Administrative Secretary among other notable guests.
